Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

When you create an account and use The Trail Golf, we collect the following: • Phone number (required): used to sign you in and verify your identity by text message (SMS). • Username (required): the name shown to you and other players. • Community (required): the 55+ community you call home. It sets which courses, leaderboards and passport you see in the app. • Gender (required): used only to apply the correct set of course ratings to your handicap, as the World Handicap System rates tees separately for men and women. • Village or neighborhood (optional): if you choose to add one, shown on your profile and used for social features. • Backup email address (optional): if you choose to add one, so we can help you recover your account. • Date of birth (optional): if you choose to add it, used to confirm you meet the minimum age and for age-based features. • Golf scores and round data you enter in the app. • Friend code, generated for you so other players can connect with you. • Profile photo (optional): if you choose to add one, shown to other players next to your name. • Notification token: an anonymous device identifier that lets us send you push notifications, if you allow them. • Crash and diagnostic reports: automatic technical reports when something goes wrong, so we can fix it. Location is used while you play to show distances to the front, middle, and back of the green, to keep the lock-screen card updated during a round, and to fetch current weather. If you allow it, the app can read your location while it is in the background so those yardages keep updating on your lock screen during a round. Your location is never stored on our servers and is never linked to your account. When you save a round played that day, the weather conditions at that time and place (temperature, wind, and general conditions) may be stored with that round, so we can show course conditions and personal insights later. If you choose to rate a round after playing it, we collect your rating, any course or game tags you select, and any note you add. This feedback is kept private and is used, together with other players' feedback, in aggregate to improve courses and the app. It is never shown to other players. When you use Add friends, The Trail reads the phone numbers saved in your contacts on your device and sends them to our server to check which ones already have a Trail Golf account. We do not store your address book. The numbers used for that check are discarded straight away, and we never build a copy of your contacts. You choose every person you add or invite; nothing is selected for you. When you invite someone, the message is written into your own Messages app and sent by you. We never send a text on your behalf. When you choose to invite someone, we keep that one phone number, together with your account, for up to 90 days. It has a single purpose: if that person joins The Trail, we can tell that you are the one who brought them, and show them your name so they can add you back. We never use it to contact them and we never share it. It is deleted automatically when the 90 days are up, or sooner if you delete your account. If you were invited and would like that record removed before then, email support@thetrailgolf.com and we will delete it — you do not need an account with us to ask. We do not sell your personal information.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to: • Create and secure your account and sign you in by text message. • Display your player profile, scores, and statistics. • Apply the correct course ratings to your handicap. • Connect you with other players and power leaderboards. • Credit you when someone you invited joins, and introduce you to them. • Manage your subscription and free trial. • Contact you about your account or important changes to the app. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third party for their own marketing.

3. Where Your Data Is Stored

Your account and profile information, including your phone number, username, gender, and any village, backup email or date of birth you add, is stored in our secure cloud database, not just on your phone. This lets you keep your data if you change or reset your device, and powers features like friends and leaderboards. Your home community is kept only on your own device and is not sent to our servers. Some information (such as your in-progress round) is also kept on your device for convenience.

4. Service Providers We Share Data With

To run The Trail Golf, we use trusted third-party companies that process some of your data on our behalf: • Twilio: sends the text message (SMS) we use to verify your phone number when you sign in. Twilio receives your phone number for this purpose. • RevenueCat: helps us manage subscriptions and free trials and confirm your subscription status. RevenueCat receives a limited identifier tied to your subscription. • Apple App Store: processes all subscription payments. We never see or store your payment card details. • Sentry: receives automatic crash and error reports so we can fix problems. Reports are stripped of personal details before they are sent and carry only an internal account identifier, never your phone number or email. • Cloudflare: stores your profile photo, if you add one, in a private storage bucket. • Expo: delivers push notifications to your device. Expo receives your notification token and the message. • Open-Meteo: receives the coordinates of where you are playing, once, to return current weather conditions. It receives no account information and nothing that identifies you. • Mapbox: supplies the satellite images for the Course Map. When the map is open, your device requests the images for the area on screen, so Mapbox receives that map area and your device's IP address. It receives no account information, and Mapbox's usage tracking is turned off in the app. • Railway: hosts our server and database, so the information described above is stored on infrastructure they operate on our behalf. These providers are only permitted to use your data to provide their service to us.

5. Subscriptions

Subscription payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. The Trail Golf does not collect or store your payment information. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID settings. We use RevenueCat to confirm whether your subscription or free trial is active.

6. Your Right to Delete Your Account

You can request deletion of your account at any time. When you do, we permanently remove or anonymize the personal information we hold about you in our cloud database, including your phone number, username, gender, and any village, backup email or date of birth, so that it can no longer identify you. Some records may be kept in anonymized form for statistics or as required by law. To delete your account or request deletion of your data, use the in-app option under the Profile tab, or contact us at support@thetrailgolf.com.

7. Children's Privacy

The Trail Golf is intended for users 18 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes through the app and update the effective date above. Continued use of The Trail Golf after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
